What is Guided Implant Surgery?

Guided implant surgery is a process of planning implant surgery on a computer using the patient's CT image. This method helps our Little Rock Dentist in planning the surgery accurately on the computer. Computer-guided implant surgery is significantly quicker, resulting in patients getting his or her new tooth on a single visit.

Equipment Needed for Guided Implant Surgery:

  1. Medical or Cone-beam CT: A Medical/Cone-beam CT is an x-ray machine capable of taking 3D images of patients. This method allows for accurate patient diagnosis and more realistic visualization.
  2. Implant Planning Software: A Cone-beam CT generates data in a special format called a DICOM. Our Implant planning software uses DICOM data, which renders the data in 2D and 3D. This software provides various tools for implant surgery planning, allowing our Little Rock Implant Dentist to view the important anatomical structure and plan the implant surgery safely.
  3. Surgical Template: A surgical template is shaped like an orthodontic splint; these are custom-designed to fit the oral cavity according to the surgical plan. These templates have small metal objects called sleeves which are inserted in the place to guide the drilling and implant direction.
  4. Guided Implant Surgery Drill Kit: Our Implant Dentist in Little Rock uses a special drill kit that is designed to be used with the surgical template for an Implant Surgery. But, the shape of the surgical template and implant specifications varies, which differs in results with the guided surgery kit. The different types of Guided Implant Surgery Drill Kits are:
    • Anchor Pin
    • Anchor Drill
    • Tissue Punch
    • Drill Guide
    • Drill

Working Process of Guided Implant Surgery

A CT Scan of the patient's mouth is taken to create a virtual surgery, where a model of the patient’s mouth and the 3D scans are overlayed to enable our Implant Dentist in Little Rock to perform a stimulating procedure. With this information, a computer-generated surgical guide is created to assist the precise placement of the implants. Our Little Rock Dentist also uses 3D imaging technology and CAD digital design software to fabricate the models of the crown which are to be placed. Once the models are received our dentist digitally designs the restoration using the CAM software. After the placement of the crowns on the implants, final digital x-rays are taken to ensure proper placement of the implants and crowns.
